Feather Merchants NZ has a rich and colorful history rooted in the art of fly fishing.

Originally established as the New Zealand branch of its larger U.S. counterpart, the company was founded by Dennis Black— an avid angler and master fly tier—who brought his extensive range of trout flies to the shores of Aotearoa to serve the passionate local fishing community.

In 2012, Dennis passed the torch to Steve Gerard, owner of Flyshop NZ Ltd, who embraced the opportunity to carry the legacy forward.

Under Steve’s stewardship, Feather Merchants NZ continues to thrive, offering a curated selection of premium trout flies, fly tying materials, and fly fishing gear tailored to New Zealand’s unique waters and fish species.
