Why is it we loose fish so often when they get down stream of us. Here is a trick that can make all the difference when that big fish starts hauling line downstream. As beginners we are taught to hold our rods high when playing fish. What is infact important is that you always keep a bend in the rod. Next time a fish heads downstream try lowering your rod to the side(close to touching the water) and almost point it upstream at the same time reducing tension. The position of the rod insures the hook will stay in place and the bend in the rod allows give should the fish run again. Because the fish is not being pulled towards the surface, the last place a fish wants to go. You will instantly notice the fish is less stressed, will fight less and will sometimes start to swim right back to you. Try it you may be surprised. |
